Image Resolution

Resolution is a very important part of printing and image editing.  It is good practice to use the industry standards of image resolution to make sure you always provide a good enough file to the printer.  We have a variety of printers here at CC Imaging.  Depending on the size you wish to print, the resolution differs slightly.

If you are printing at A3 (11.75" x 16.5" / 297mm x 420mm) or lower you should set your image resolution to 300 dpi/ppi (dots/pixels per inch).  If you are printing above A3, you should set your image resolution to 245 dpi/ppi.

As we don't know which piece of software you are using, we have provided steps according to Adobe Photoshop CS.

300 dpi Resolution

1) Click on Image on the top menu bar.

2) Click on Image Size from the menu.

3) You will see a small box which contains 5 vertical white numbered boxes and 3 tick boxes at the bottom.

4) First, make sure to tick the 3 boxes at the bottom.

5) Leave the top 2 white boxes (which deal with size in pixels)

6) You will notice that the lower 3 white boxes are inside an box called Document Size.

7) Set the width of your image to your required width and notice that the figure in the Height box will change according to the size you type in the width.

8) When you are happy with this dimensions of your image, type 300 in the third white box below your image dimensions and make sure to check that the drop down list to the right is set to pixels/inch.
